The MSc in Energy Management and Policy aims to develop a new generation of energy leaders who can navigate the complexities of the global energy landscape. This programme integrates interdisciplinary approaches to energy issues, combining technical expertise, management strategies, and policy analysis. It is designed to foster sustainable and innovative solutions to address the challenges of energy security, economic efficiency, environmental sustainability, and social equity in the evolving energy sector.

Programme Summary

Minimum Qualifications for Admission

The admission requirements for applicants are presented in two sections. The first addresses requirements for local applicants, and the second presents requirements for foreign applicants.

 

Admission Requirements – Local Applicants

  • Applicants with a good bachelor degree from Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC)-approved Universities or any recognized global university’s bachelor degree in management, science, engineering and other related discipline, may apply. A good bachelor degree refers to applicants with First and Second Class. An applicant with a Third Class may be considered for the programme subject to an interview.

 

Admission Requirements – International Applicants

  • International applicants may be admitted based on qualifications from their home country universities, for which equivalence shall be determined by GTEC and submitted to the University.

 

  • Students from non-English speaking countries will be required to have evidence of proficiency in the English language.

 

Additional requirements for admission will include: 

  1. Full completion of an admission application form;
  2. Payment of the appropriate application fee;
  • Copies of certified academic certificates and transcripts;
  1. Two recommendation letters on the applicant’s ability to undertake this programme;
  2. Personal statement on motivation to pursue the programme.

Details of the Curriculum

Required (Core) course

Students enrolling in the programme will take the following nine (9) mandatory/core courses:

  • Fundamentals of Energy Economics
  • Energy Law and Policy
  • Research Methods in Energy Sector
  • Energy Efficiency and Management
  • Strategic Management in Energy Sector
  • Renewable Energy Technologies and Climate Change
  • Financing Management of Sustainable Energy
  • Energy Project Management and Risk Analysis
  • Energy Innovation and Entrepreneurship

 

(b) Elective course (s):

There are three (3) elective courses. Students are required to choose one (1). These are:

  • Energy Markets and Derivatives
