“We are not building a normal university, but an extraordinary one that will meet the demands of the future.”
These were the inspiring words of His Royal Majesty Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, Council Chair of Accra Metropolitan University (Accra Met), as he charged the newly inaugurated Council to embrace a bold vision anchored in innovation, purpose, and excellence.
Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Council on Friday, June 20, 2025, the first in the history of Accra Met following its Presidential Charter in 2024, HRM Adamtey I urged members to see their role as more than ceremonial.
He emphasized the need for deliberate action that will position the university to address global challenges and create opportunities for those who might otherwise be left behind.
“The purpose of Accra Metropolitan University is to give opportunity to everyone, irrespective of background, to benefit from education they may not get elsewhere,” he said.
In a related interview, the Council Chair expanded on the university’s mission, noting that Accra Met is committed to creating real impact in the lives of students, their families, and the wider community.
“Education is more than just studying; it’s about networking, finding opportunities, and expanding vision. Our aim is to help students go beyond the classroom and gain meaningful benefits that enhance their lives and communities,” he added.

HRM Adamtey I and Dr. David Wuako, a Council Member, both paid glowing tribute to Professor Joshua Alabi, acknowledging his critical role in founding the university.
“Prof. Joshua Alabi’s contribution, dedication, and commitment to higher education are among the most important reasons we are here today,” noted the Council Chair.
Though Prof. Alabi could not attend the event due to other national assignments, he was warmly acknowledged as “the visionary behind this great university,” whose support continues to be felt even from the sidelines.
Also addressing the gathering, Professor Mrs. Goski Alabi, the Consulting President and a representative of the subscribers, described the day as a significant milestone.
“This is not just a ceremonial event; it is the unfolding of a new chapter in the life of our university,” she said, expressing deep gratitude to all who laid the foundation for the institution.
Prof. Mrs. Alabi highlighted the values that must guide the Council’s work, including wisdom, integrity, vision, leadership, flexibility, and innovation.
“We may appear to be ambitious as an institution, but ambition rooted in purpose and guided by strong values is what will make us stand out,” she said.
The Council of Accra Metropolitan University, composed of individuals with diverse backgrounds and expertise, is expected to play a strategic role in steering the institution toward becoming a model for inclusive and future-ready higher education.
